Alamitos Bay Yacht Club was founded in 1924 and is one of the premiere dinghy sail boat racing clubs in the world. We have a modern clubhouse facility, and our paved boat yard is home to two- hundred- plus sailboats, owned by our members who are active racers and cruisers. We also have excellent beach access from our western gate for convenient enjoyment of our tranquil and inviting Alamitos Bay. ABYC's primary goal is to provide a family-friendly atmosphere where we can get together and share our love of sailing. We have an active junior program for sailors from 7-18 years of age, have an adult learn-to-sail program, and for young and old sailors, we host 14 regularly scheduled regattas, the largest being the famous Turkey Day Regatta. We also host 5 to 10 championship regattas, including regional, national, North American, and world championships. These regattas include categories for dinghy, keel, and multihull sailboats. Our illustrious membership includes national, North American, world, and Olympic champions.
We also host world-class races, all staffed by member volunteers. We have four regular committees: the Race Management Committee (RMC) yearly, Social Advisory Committee (SAC), Junior Advisory Committee (JAC), and Membership Support Group (MSG). These hard- working groups are a big part of our consistency and excellence. Please contact the committee chairs if you’d like to become involved.
Our easy-to-navigate website is a great way to find out what’s happening at our secluded, end-of-the-peninsula oasis. We also announce our events through weekly emails and our monthly club newsletter, The Sou'Wester, published electronically, which details the highlights of our year-round races and events. The Clubhouse is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, but you’re welcome to visit us any other day of the week between 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. – please check in at the front desk. Parking in our gated lot is reserved for members only. We’re always looking for enthusiastic new members. If you’d like more details, please call our office at 562-434-9955 and ask for Sheila Mattox, Director of Member Services or you can send an email to [email protected]. From all of us in the ABYC family, thank you for your interest. Please come by for a visit and find out why our motto is,
