Alamitos Bay Yacht Club in Long Beach CA will be hosting the 2018 Laser North American Championship July 12-15 (Thursday through Sunday). Winners will crowned in three classes; Laser Standard, Laser Radial and Laser 4.7. July is one of the best times of the year to sail in Long Beach, with the westerly sea breeze building in the afternoon to the mid-teens.
This regatta will serve as the country qualifier for the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru. The event will qualify the top seven countries (not previously qualified) in both the Laser Standard (men) and Laser Radial (women) events.
In addition to fleets of Standards and Radials, we hope this regatta will see a good West Coast turnout of Laser 4.7’s. The 4.7 is an ideal next step for Optimist and Sabot sailors with an optimum crew weight ranging from 50-70kg (110 to 160lbs). You could be the next Laser 4.7 North American Champion.
Racers in this regatta are also competing for 40 Laser North American Grand Prix Points and World Sailing Points. Click on the link for more information about the 2018 Laser North American Grand Prix Rules.
Additionally, there are Qualifying Opportunities for three berths at the 2019 Senior Laser World Championships based on results of the 2018 North American Championship. Click on the link for more information 2019 World Qualification System.
